Super Soccer Stars!

Ella's soccer clinic came to an end this weekend, too. She got a medal for her efforts at soccer. I overheard some parents talking about what a tough cookie the little girl with the long blonde pigtails was. Ella would fearlessly take on the biggest boys in one-on-one 'steal the bacon' soccer matches. Jack was very proud of her and gave her a congratulations hug (careful not to face the camera, of course).

Jack did a soccer clinic this season, too, but his clinic didn't give out trophies. Jack gave soccer his all so we thought he deserved a trophy, too. I got him an "indestructible" bobblehead soccer trophy off of eBay. He likes it and is determined to prove the seller's claim false.

Jumping Jack (+ Ella)!

We got a bounce house! I've been lobbying to get one for a while, along with a playground. I got the resounding no on the playground from Jonathan recently so I think the bounce house was a peace offering. The kids love it and I look forward to having some playdates outside. Gator was happy that the kids were contained...

A Major Award

Today was Ella's last day of gymnastics until Fall. Her coach gave her a gymnastics trophy because Ella did a "super duper great job" (according to Ella). Ella is very proud of her gymnastics trophy and would like to ask her Aunt Jacqui why the girl's feet aren't together in her handstand.

Ella's also very proud of her artwork and wanted to show you guys. She was practicing some letters, too--and, I swear, I had nothing to do with the first three letters being 'CPA'.

My Little Chefs

Ella and Jack got chef hats today. So, tonight my little chefs "cooked" me fresh salad, meat and potatoes, ratatouille, noodles, kiwi, and cookies. It was a very hardy meal and we had lots of fun. It was good rainy day fun that took our minds off of Nonny and Papa's departure today. At first Ella was insisting that Nonny and Papa stay longer, but once she found out that they were going to Aunt Tracy's house it was a different story. Ella asked if they could "babysit" her and bring her along to go see her cousins. Sorry, Ella, you'll have to stay here with us, but hopefully we'll visit with them soon.

Lazy 5 Ranch

We had the perfect day at Lazy 5 Ranch. The weather was beautiful, it wasn't crowded, and we all had a great time feeding the animals.

Jack is still shy about getting his picture taken--he won't even take a picture with his Mommy! I finally get to be in a picture and Jack would rather face the bushes than the camera and Ella's face is hidden by her visor. Oh well, maybe next time!

After visiting the petting zoo and having a picnic, we took a horse-drawn wagon ride through the park to see all of the free-roaming animals. Jack really got in to feeding the animals. He's not very generous, though. Each animal (baby goat, water buffalo, and yak alike) got one piece at a time. Needless to say, his bucket was still full when we got done with our hour-long wagon ride.

Ella and Nonny really went for it with each animal that came up. Ella's hand went down in to a yak's mouth. When Ella pulled her slimy hand out of his mouth, Ella said, "A yak! Yuck! Double yuck!"

Memorial Day Cook-Out

We finally got a new grill and decided to enjoy it with a little Memorial Day BBQ with the neighbors and, of course, Nonny and Papa. The adults enjoyed some beers and burgers while the kids enjoyed playing in the backyard. Poor Mitchell from next door got tackled by our little kids! I don't know exactly what Jack's doing--I guess he's taking a break from wrestling. Ella, on the other hand, is relentless!

Nonny and Papa Visit!

Nonny and Papa came to visit for Memorial Day Weekend! Ella and Jack had a great time with their grandparents. Now, Nonny and Papa aren't just reading our blog--they're a part of it. We all really enjoyed their visit....not to mention the free babysitting for a movie night for Jonathan and me.

A Very Happy Un-Birthday

Today was the last day of school for the kids. And, as such, Jack's class celebrated the Summer birthdays today. His teachers and I both felt bad for him that he never will celebrate his birthday with his class on the actual day. Jack enjoyed sharing his day with the June birthdays, however, and was very proud of his '3' crown. I guess we'll be saving that for his actual birthday in a few months. Today we celebrated his 2 years, 9 months, 2 weeks, and 6 days old Un-birthday. And, it was a very happy Un-birthday, indeed.

Ah, Young Love...

...and I mean young. I never thought the crushes would begin this early, but Ella's infatuation with Baden continues--it has literally gone on for nearly 2 years. Luckily, it's mutual and Baden is a real sweetie. Today we went to the preschool's Family Picnic to mark the end of the school year. Baden and Ella exchanged several "I love you", "you're so special", and "you're sweet" comments throughout the afternoon. It was bitter sweet. Baden won't be going to Ella's school next year. We have become friends with Baden's family, though (you see in one picture Jack's working on Baden's cute little sister, Ilse), so I'm sure we'll have playdates in the future.

Something else cute today-the kids were in the bath tonight and I hear Ella tell Jack to scratch her back. "No, a little to the left. No, a little to the right. Yup, right there. Thanks, Jack."

The Budding Artists

Ella came home from school with an art project she had been working on for a while. She's very proud of it....and, apparently that is not a caterpillar, it is a bumble bee (don't make the same mistake Jack did).

The kids were inspired to do a little secret art project for Father's Day (shhh, don't tell Daddy--oh, scratch that, Ella already let it slip). And, again, Jack's scowl picture was taken right before his hands covered his face. This is usually the face he gives us when we ask for "pirate face", but I guess it works, too, when Mommy paparazzi won't put the camera away...

Right in Our Own Backyard

A "chance for thunderstorms" turned out to be a very nice day. We played outside for several hours. Mitchell, our next door neighbor, even joined us for a bit. I think just about every toy from our garage came out at one time or another. We had tricycle races, we played with the Moon Sand, Jack and I kicked the soccer ball, and (hooray!) Jack finally mastered his scooter on his own.

Jack was playing red light, green light with the soccer ball. In this picture Ella is showing Jack what her soccer class does when they yell "black light"--they dance!

Made You Look!

Ella went to an all-girls princess birthday party today. She got dressed up for it and wanted her picture taken. Jack, on the other had, puts his hands over his face every time I get the camera out. I had to tell him that I saw Spider Man to get him to look at me.

Ella wanted me to get pictures of her showing off some of her gymnastics moves, too.

The Domino Effect

Ella worked for about 45 minutes today to create the true domino effect with her Dora dominoes over and over and over again. It was definitely set in motion more times on accident than on purpose.
It was game night and the kids went through Candy Land, Chutes and Ladders, and Cariboo before getting out the dominoes. Jack's game of choice was Sounds of the Seashore. He liked the dolphin sound best and he was very excited to hear that Aunt Tracy can do an even better dolphin impression.

No Rules for Super Heroes

Apparently Mr. Incredible doesn't have to follow the rules. When I asked Jack to get down off the arm of the couch in the playroom, he looked at me incredulously and huffed, "But I'm Mr. Incredible." He also has Batman, Superman, Buzz Lightyear, and Spider Man pajamas--who knows what rules they don't have to follow!

The pajamas aren't as cool for little girls, but the costumes are much easier to come by. Ella had to get in on the dress-up action.

A Very Happy Mother's Day

It was a wonderful Mother's Day. The kids are so sweet and loving. They each said "Happy Mother's Day" about thirty times today. Ella wants to know, however, when it's going to be her day. I think we will be having a "Kids' Day" soon with a trip to the zoo and some ice cream.

Another great thing about today is that we finally bought some bedroom furniture. Say goodbye to the master bedroom dorm room....well, at least in 4-6 weeks.

Poor Sweet Little Toe

Ella likes to talk about her "poor sweet little toe." After nearly three weeks of healing, it's still a very poor, poor toe. Jonathan asked Ella when her toe would be better to which she replied, "I don't know. I'm not a doctor." But, don't worry. This whole ordeal hasn't made our little goofball serious. She's still as crazy as ever.

Watch for the new blog...

We can apparently do an entire blog just on strange places this boy succumbs to his need for a nap! He won't admit it, but yes, he still does need a nap everyday.

Thursday afternoon, after coming inside from a little nap in the car Jack didn't make it past the mudroom. (And we are quite aware we need that mudroom built-in to control the shoes...)

Saturday evening he fell asleep at the kitchen table waiting for dinner.

Fun in the Sun

It's another beautiful sunny day here in Charlotte--although, admittedly we'd rather have a few days of good rain. The kids played outside in the yard while I vacuumed out my car ('bout time). Ella played hopscotch, jump rope, and made "grass angels". Jack was playing golf and came up to me with the red golf ball up to his nose and said, "Mommy, I look like a clown." Very cute! Gator even enjoyed some time relaxing in the grass.
