The cousins each made their own tie-dyed shirts this week and donned them on our last morning in Hilton Head. We had another fantastic week and loved this time spent with family! Thanks, Nonni and Papa, for making it happen—we can’t wait until next year!
On our last night on HHI we took to the beach, all showered and dressed in our finest this time to take our self-timer, tripod group photo. I love being able to compare photos from previous years to see how much the kids have grown. I love these faces.
On our last full day of our week in Hilton Head, we took a Zodiak boat tour out in Calibogue Sound. Last year we went on a Zodiak tour with the same company and it was such a beautiful way to explore the area and see lots of wildlife, so we thought we’d do it again this year. This year, Ivy and Tracy were able to join us and we took a different route on our tour. We stopped at the “disappearing island” which is of course only there during low tide. It was a great place to see some tiny wildlife and most of the time it looked like we were all walking on water. We then explored the marshy areas hoping to get a glimpse at dolphins strand feeding, an activity unique to the South Carolina and Georgia coastline where dolphins herd fish onto the shore and then hoist their bodies on the beach to feed. We did see quite a few dolphins but unfortunately none participating in this unique activity. Maybe next time!
After a bike ride to the Stoney-Baynard Ruins in Sea Pines, we spent the loveliest of evenings on the beach. I love our weeks in Hilton Head.
Beautiful day for the beach! We come prepared to the beach for the long haul now with plenty of boogie boards, sand-castle-building tools, footballs, paddle ball sets, a canopy, snacks, water, sunscreen and—probably most important in ensuring many hours out before the parents call it a day—plenty of adult drinks (sangria, margaritas, etc…we get more creative each year). Either way, we’re all having a great time for the day out on the beach.
Today we checked off a few of the must-do’s while vacationing in Sea Pines—we biked to South Beach marina to load up on our Salty Dog gear and enjoy some ice cream and we spent our evening enjoying Gregg Russell’s show under the big oak tree of Harbour Town. Oh, and after many hours in the sun from biking, beaching, and pooling, we cuddled up for afternoon naps. Great day. #iloveHHI
