Spring Break in Charleston: Day 1

The last time we had travelled to the lovely city of Charleston was when Jack was in a stroller, so we were long overdue for a trip.  I prefer to spend time there not during the hot and muggy South Carolina summers, so we decided to head there for the last half of the kids’ Spring Break.  Looking ahead at the weather we realized our first of three days in Charleston could be our only day of good weather.  So, we decided this first day of our trip was the best day to spend our time walking the city.  We stayed in a hotel in the historic district so, from there, we headed down to Battery Park and then worked our way around town—the Old Market, St. Michael’s Church, Broad Street, and Waterfront Park.  After an incredible seafood dinner at Hank’s Seafood, we continued our walking tour of historic Charleston.  Our evening walk was spent mostly just taking in the quaint streets and alleys, Rainbow Row, and then we ended up back at Battery Park.  What a charming city.  And the kids were troopers, walking all day without complaining and trying new things at dinner (Jack enjoyed a plate of oysters and Ella had shrimp).  They enjoyed every minute and, according to my FitBit, we walked over 7 miles.

{i’m not sure what was going on with this pose on the ball.  they both did it again when we ended up back at the battery in the evening.  they seemed to think it was hi-larious.}

{pointing out where we’d be headed the next day, the uss yorktown.}

{checking out the en plein air painter.  jack seemed just as fascinated as ella.}
